Dummy Tap Test Transaction

Customers ‘tap’ their payment cards on your card reader devices to make an in-store payment.

This test is to ensure that Clearpay is working for in-store payments.

Overview

To make a Clearpay in-store payment, a customer needs the following:

  • To have downloaded and installed the Clearpay app on their phone or other mobile device
  • An existing Clearpay customer (consumer) account
  • Apple Pay or Google Pay. The Clearpay app works by putting a virtual Clearpay payment card into the customer’s Apple Pay or Google Pay wallet

Instructions

To make a test payment, do the following:

  1. Log into the Clearpay app with your existing Clearpay customer (consumer) account. If you do not have a Clearpay customer account, you must create one.
  2. Tap the In Store option in the bottom menu and follow the steps to set up the Clearpay Card. This adds the Clearpay Card to your Apple Wallet or Google Play wallet.
  3. Go to the point of sale/card terminal device you use to process a transaction and enter £1 as the transaction amount. If you cannot manually enter the sale amount into the card terminal, scan an item from your store instead. Don’t worry, you won’t be charged anything for this test.
  4. Open the Clearpay app and click the card icon.
  5. Push the Authorize and pay in-store button and hold your phone near the card reader to complete the transaction.
  6. You get a decline - this is correct as we have not yet set up your store to accept the Clearpay Card.
  7. Record the details of your test transaction in the Clearpay Stores Test Transaction Form.
